We believe that by adopting our own Code of Conduct we, in partnership with our suppliers, are exercising a practical approach to improving the social, environmental and economic conditions of our own communities as well as communities around the world.

The following principles are an expression of the universal values we share with our business partners and which provide the basis for our valued supplier relationships:

Human Rights

Fairmount Santrol supports human rights consistent with the principles of the UN Global Compact; therefore, we partner with our suppliers to support the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights within their sphere of influence. We encourage and support our suppliers in their efforts to enact and maintain policies that respect basic human rights and dignity.

Safe and Healthy-Workplace Providing a safe and healthy work environment is a critical focus of our business practices, and we partner with each of our suppliers to provide the same level of commitment to health and safety. We value suppliers that demonstrate responsible health and safety management through a written safety policy and that make progress toward the elimination of workplace injuries and illnesses. Suppliers that actively manage health and safety issues in the workplace and that communicate health and safety information to Fairmount Santrol are highly valued partners to our company. Dignity and Respect in the Workplace-Fairmount Santrol will not tolerate conduct that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment. Fairmount Santrol has also adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward workplace violence. We encourage and support our suppliers to create and maintain an environment free from any threats of violence, sexual exploitation or abuse. We value partnerships with suppliers that treat all employees with dignity and respect.

Labor

Fairmount Santrol respects, promotes and enacts fundamental labor standards as outlined in the UN Global Compact. We ask that all of our suppliers, regardless of economic circumstances or cultural values, maintain the following labor standards:

Voluntary Employment, Child Labor and Freedom of Association- Fairmount Santrol promotes voluntary employment and supports workers’ and children’s rights in our own operations and those of our suppliers. We ask that our suppliers adhere to all applicable laws, standards and regulations that prohibit the employment of forced, bonded or child labor. We also encourage and support our suppliers to uphold employee rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining.

Fairmount Santrol promotes environmental responsibility with an environmental management system that considers our operational impacts as well as our product life cycles. We ask that our suppliers comply with all existing legislation and regulations regarding environmental protection, and we encourage and support our suppliers to implement effective and innovative environmental policies.

Environmental Management- Effective and thoughtful environmental management is a core value at Fairmount Santrol, and we value supplier partnerships that support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges, undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility and encourage the development and proliferation of environmentally friendly technologies. As Fairmount Santrol makes progress on minimizing our own environmental footprint, we value suppliers that create, innovate and implement effective policies and activities in the following areas:

  • Minimization of waste
  • Recycling
  • Reductions in air emissions (VOCs, particulate matter, greenhouse gases)
  • Restoration of land
  • Responsible resource utilization
  • Stewardship of product lifecycle

Honesty and integrity are fundamental to Fairmount Santrol’s philosophies, values and business practices. We encourage, support and value suppliers that adhere to the highest standard of moral and ethical conduct, respect local laws and steer clear of any form of deceptive or corrupt practices including extortion, fraud and bribery.

Community Engagement

Fairmount Santrol is committed to the communities within which we operate, and we prioritize the practice of supporting local communities through charitable donations and volunteer support. Fairmount Santrol values suppliers that parallel this kind of commitment to the communities in which they operate, and that demonstrate community engagement through volunteering, philanthropy and public-private partnerships that will have a positive and enduring effect on the communities they touch.

Transparency

This Code of Conduct is a key component to ensuring that Fairmount Santrol’s supplier partnerships and procurement processes are transparent, impactful and understood by all of our valued stakeholders. In addition, Fairmount Santrol creates an annual sustainability report to move us toward transparency across all of our business practices.

Fairmount Santrol encourages and supports suppliers that endeavor to make business processes transparent that adopt sustainability/corporate citizenship reporting practices.

This supplier Code of Conduct frames Fairmount Santrol’s supplier partnership and procurement principles. These principles outline a wide range of factors that we take into consideration when assessing supplier relationships and are designed to work in conjunction with the standards included in our Corporate Procurement Policy.
