Voca TX Sand Plant Participates in Community Events
At Fairmount Santrol, we embrace the principles of sustainable development. One way we do it is to make investments in the communities where we live and work to create a brighter future for everyone.
In May, 2017, our Voca, Texas Family Members participated and volunteered in multiple events in the adjacent community of Brady, Texas.
Golfing to Support College Scholarships
Fairmount Santrol Family Members participated in the annual Denise Nichols Memorial Duffers Tournament. Hosted by the Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce, the event raises scholarship funds for McCullough County students who are heading off to college. A group of Fairmount Santrol Family Members volunteered at this event.. This is the fourth year that the Voca facility was able to participate in this event. We sponsored two teams and had a few family members play on other teams as well. 2017 was the 28th year of the event and its fifth year as a scholarship fundraiser. In those five years, the Chamber has been able to award scholarships to seven deserving seniors.
Heart and Sole Relays for Special Olympics
Our team also participated in the 1st Annual Heart and Sole Relays. This event is new to the region and was a Special Olympics sanctioned track meet Volunteers from our Voca plant helped in various roles, including selling t-shirts, staffing concession stands, announcing, helping in field events, and running events as well. Around 50 athletes came from different schools and delegations to take part in this inaugural event. These children have been competing in track meets all season long and it culminated with the final event of the year. It was very rewarding for all of our volunteers, in all their roles to be a part of it. We especially enjoyed speaking with the kids, seeing their faces shine as they received their medals to watching all of the encouragement they gave to their fellow competitors.. Fairmount Santrol Voca looks forward to an active role in this event for years to come, and to watching it grow.
Active Support for Volunteering in Our Communities
Fairmount Santrol grants each Family Member the ability to donate 40 hours of paid volunteer time per year. That means Family Members can take paid time away from work to volunteer. We encourage our Family Members to choose charities of their choice, as we know volunteering is good for individual development and for our company’s relationships with the communities where we operate. In 2016 alone, we collectively donated almost 10,000 hours across all our geographic locations. Since 2011, we have donated over 76,000 hours to the communities where we live and work. We believe that business can be an agent of world benefit, and this idea comes to fruition in our motto: “Do Good. Do Well.”View all posts
